Internet and MMS settings (APN) guide

If you use a new phone and use your giffgaff SIM card, you may have to manually configure the APN to use the data and send MMS messages.

This guide gives you the most appropriate methods to update the settings for each type of phone.

This guide shows you how to configure the APN for the type of mobile phone you have.

Software Update

The latest phone models with Android system, come with giffgaff settings available automatically. Make sure your mobile phone is updated to the latest version of Android.

When your mobile phone is up-to-date, go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > More .. > Mobile Networks > Access Point Name. Here, select giffgaff.

Manual update

In case your settings are not automatically available yet, you can change them manually.

  • Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > More .. > Mobile Networks > Access Point Name.
  • Create a new APN.
  • Fill the APN with the settings available in Data & MMS settings below and save it.

Dual SIM Manual update

Step 1 - Create a new APN for giffgaff :

  • Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks section > More .. > Mobile Networks > Access Point Name
  • Once on the APN page, create, save and set as active a new APN for giffgaff using the standard details.

Step 2 - Set your giffgaff sim as the sim to be used for mobile data:

  • Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks >Sim cards (or SIM card manager)> Preferred SIM card
  • Set your giffgaff SIM card as preferred SIM for mobile data (it may show as Data service network)

Step 3 - Enable Mobile data for your giffgaff SIM:

  • Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Data Usage > At the top of the page, select the SIM Tab associated with your giffgaff SIM.
  • Once you are on the selected Tab, switch mobile data on.

Using the official giffgaff carrier profile

If your iPhone is running iOS 7 or above, then you´ll receive a notification telling you that the giffgaff carrier settings are available. Simply follow the on-screen instructions to install the giffgaff profile.

If you have not received the notification, then you can force your iPhone to check for the update by using a Wi-Fi or a 3G/4G data connection and going to:

  • Settings > General > About

Wait a few seconds and the iPhone should prompt you that an update is available.

If your Iphone mobile has an old system, you have to update it to the latest version to install the carrier settings. When you upgrade iOS to a newer version, the carrier profile is reset to the latest version available during the update.


Changing your carrier profile manually

If your iDevice is running an older version of iOS, it is possible to modify the data settings with the following method.

Manual updating of MMS Settings

  • Go to Settings
  • Go to Mobile (or Cellular)
  • Go to Mobile (or Cellular) Data
  • Under MMS, enter the MMS SETTINGS below
  • Switch mobile data OFF and ON.

If your phone is using Windows 8, giffgaff settings are automatically available. If you are using an older version of Windows Phone, you will have to use one of the methods below.

With an app

If your settings are not accessible already in the menu of your Windows Phone, you can install the Mobile Network app. It will allow you to update your settings manually.

Manual update

To change your data and MMS settings:

  • From your home screen, flick left to the Application list
  • Select Settings
  • Select Mobile
  • Select Add Internet APN and insert the Data & MMS settings from below
  • Select Save

If you are using a version of the BlackBerry operating system prior to BB10, your settings are managed through BlackBerry services and are configured automatically when you activate BlackBerry Services within the My profile & settings page of My giffgaff

giffgaff settings are available by default in all BlackBerries using BB10 or above

If your phone is using an operating system which is not listed above, you can still use the same settings.

Phones using 3G / 4G

If your phone is using 3G or 4G data you can simply use the Data & MMS settings described in the next section.

Phones using WAP

If your phone is using WAP data instead you can also use the Data & MMS settings. You will just need to add the following to the settings:

  • Internet Proxy: 193.113.200.195
  • Internet Port: 8080

Depending on the model of your phone you can create one APN with both data and MMS settings or create one separate APN for each.

In order to avoid any conflict, we advise removing existing APN settings.
